Learning music is to perceive life, and the process of pursuing music is also a process of making oneself perfect. Learning music requires two conditions: one is talent; the other is hard work. Differences in talents exist objectively, but people who are successful in music all have the characteristics in common: diligence and sense of uplift.

Introduction to School of Music

School of Music was founded in 1993. There are two undergraduate majors in Musicology and Music Performance. Musicology is a professional reform pilot major in Henan Province, and Music Performance is a specialty in Henan Province and a first-class major in Henan Province.

 

 

Faculty

There are 43 teachers currently, with 14 professors and associate professors, 2 overseas Ph.Ds, and 33 masters at home and abroad. Singer Yan Weiwen, pianist Shi Shucheng and other well-known experts are guest professors in the School of Music.

 

Teaching and Research

School of Music has published 22 books, 280 papers, completed more than 50 provincial and ministerial scientific research projects, and won more than 80 scientific research awards at or above the provincial and departmental level. Tianzhong Local Music Culture Research Institute is a research base of intangible culture in Henan Province. There are one piano building, one concert hall, four digital piano classrooms, and four dance rehearsal halls.

Students have won multiple gold medals in national college students’ performances and provincial competitions. In recent years, the postgraduate entrance examination rate has reached about 15%. The students have a solid foundation and high overall quality, and have been well received by employers from all walks of life.

 

Undergraduate Program Introduction

 

1. Musicology (Professional Reform Pilot in Henan Province)

 

Training Objectives

This major cultivates basic knowledge of musicology and similar majors, as well as the ability to conduct theoretical analysis and research on music. It also cultivates innovative and applied music talents who can work in cultural centers, primary and secondary schools, social music organizations, scientific research units, publishing, radio, film and television departments to engage in the teaching and research of basic music theories and basic skills, and stage performances.

 

Career Prospectus

Engaged in music education, teaching and management, and engaged in literature and art propaganda and mass culture in related departments.

 

Core Modules

Basic Music Theory, Sight Singing and Ear Training, History of Chinese and Foreign Music, Harmony, Music Teaching, Vocal Music, Piano, Chorus Cnductor, etc.

 

2. Music Performance (Specialty in Henan Province, First-class Specialty in Provincial Level)

Training Objectives

This major cultivates knowledge and abilities in music performance (singing, performance, dance choreography), etc. This major cultivates creative and applied music professionals who can be competent for artistic guidance of enterprises and institutions, and can engage in music performances, choreography, dance choreography and teaching in professional art performance groups, cultural centers, primary and secondary schools, enterprises and institutions.
