Bu Xiaolong, an undergraduate student majoring in Artificial Intelligence (Class of 2021) at the School of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, Huanghuai University, has recently published a research article in the prestigious Scientific Reports journal. The paper, titled “Sign Language Recognition Based on Dual Path Background Erasure Convolutional Neural Network”, is published in the journal indexed within the second quartile (Q2) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ journal ranking system. Huanghuai University holds the distinction of being the first affiliation for this publication. This achievement stands as a testament to the effectiveness of the undergraduate mentorship program within the University.
Verbal communication, while fundamental to human interaction, presents a significant challenge for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. To address this communication barrier, this research proposes a lightweight sign language recognition model. Through comparative analysis, the study demonstrates that the proposed method exhibits superior generalization capabilities.
The School of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence has placed a strong emphasis on fostering research and innovation, implementing various initiatives to promote the integration of teaching and research. These efforts include the establishment of high-caliber research teams and the formation of undergraduate mentorship groups to provide robust support for student research endeavors. This strategic approach has not only significantly boosted high-quality research output but has also cultivated a vibrant research atmosphere within the school. Looking forward, the School of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence remains committed to implementing targeted measures that prioritize the cultivation of high-impact research outcomes and the development of first-rate academic disciplines. Through these endeavors, the school aims to make substantial contributions to the overall advancement of Huanghuai University as a leading institution of higher education.
