The 12th World Biomaterials Congress, dubbed the “Olympics of Biomaterials”, was held from May 26th to 31st at the Daegu Exhibition & Convention Center in South Korea. Dr. Fu Lina from our School of Medicine, along with Zhang Huaide and Ma Lanlan, undergraduate nursing students from the Class of 2021, were invited to attend the quadrennial event.
Dr. Fu Lina chaired a session titled “Plant and Polysaccharide-based Biomaterials” and delivered a presentation at the congress. Zhang Huaide and Ma Lanlan presented a poster titled “Preparation and Characterization of Bacterial Nanocellulose/Silver Nanoparticles for Antimicrobial Wound Dressing,” highlighting the potential application of bacterial nanocellulose combined with silver nanoparticles as an innovative antimicrobial wound dressing.
The World Biomaterials Congress brings together leading scientists and professionals from around the globe in the field of biomaterials, providing a platform for sharing the latest innovations in biology, biomaterials, bio-systems, bioengineering, and tissue engineering. This conference marks the first time that undergraduate students from the School of Medicine have participated in an international academic event and showcased their research findings, serving as a prime example of the School’s commitment to integrating teaching and research and embracing an open approach to education.
