November 7^th-11^th, THE 7^th WORLD KONGFU CHAMPIONSHIP, hosted by Sichuan Sports Bureau, Leshan Municipal People’s Government and sponsored by the International Kongfu Federation and the Chinese Kongfu Association, was held in Mt. Emei city, Sichuan province with 3860 participants from 57 countries and districts and 266 domestic delegations. This competition is the biggest one in Kongfu circles and hailed as “the Olympic Games in martial arts” due to its high profile and fierce competition.

Our university and sports college leaders highly valued this event with careful preparation, and designated Dr. Xiao Yakang as the coach of the team with 7 students. They participated in six different boxing contest and seven kinds of Kongfu instruments contest. They were gearing up for this event and trained hard. Our players showed their excellent martial arts skills and good spirit. They were competing with different levels of contestants with no fear. Our players have won a gold medal (first prize), a silver medal (second prize), seven bronze medals (third prize) and a second prize in team competition out of this event.

Our players carried out in-depth exchanges and communication with other players from domestic and abroad, and learned the skills from each other during the competition. This enhanced the friendship and demonstrated the good quality and self-cultivation of Huanghuai University teachers and students. This also interpreted the Huanghuai spirit, being brave in struggling and pursuit of excellence. Our players received a widely praise. Meanwhile, this event improved our students practical abilities, enriched the teaching forms and methods, strengthened practical skills, and highlighted our reform achievements of the professional skills teaching mode which combines competition with practice and training with practice.
